James and I both worked for a grocery store chain. He was working at the one here in Waco and I was in Corsicana. We had mutual friends who introduced us and, well, they did a great job because we got married in July of 2007. After that, we quickly started the house hunting process! It wasn't an easy thing to do -- we saw so many houses, and none of them were working. All I wanted was a house that had some square footage so we could start our life together and make our home a place we both wanted to spend time.
When I first saw 4509 Gorham, I fell in love with its traditional Colonial look. The front porch is so inviting and I remember seeing the nice landscaping, and beautiful trees... I couldn't wait to go inside! I also love that it is a corner lot & I thought, "Wow! This house will be so gorgeous during the Holidays!". I instantly imagined the house lit up with lights and decor. This house really has immaculate curb appeal!
Inside, the kitchen has granite counter tops and lights under the cabinets that I absolutely love. I love how the lights made the granite shine. I love how much storage space in the kitchen too -- even a built in computer nook to make the space really feel warm and inviting.
The mud room was a big plus for me! I love being able to walk in from the garage and have places to put your coats and shoes. Plus, it has extra charm with the built in ironing board for when you are doing your laundry.
The master bedroom being downstairs really fit our needs and I love the 'his and her' sink areas and 'his and hers' closets. It gave us the space and privacy.
What initially attracted us to the house was all of the character in this house that just wasn't offered in the cookie cutter houses we had been looking at before. Upstairs the bedrooms each have their own bathroom. On top of that, there is a giant play room or man cave. One thing I really like is all the cubby's and storage spaces this house has upstairs -- we never had to store any of our belongings out in the elements.
Living here, I always loved driving up to the house -- the corner lot, the trees, the front porch, all of it still gave me just as much excitement each day as it did the first time we saw it. In the summer the giant crepe myrtle blooms pink and the greenery is just gorgeous. I loved how bright and cheery the house is in the day time when the blinds are open. I love how our guests could access a bathroom downstairs & that it is right around the corner from the kitchen. It was always nice to have a place for them where they didn't have to go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom.
As the years passed, we put in a new metal roof, high end air conditioner, then in 2017 we put in a second shed, a new tub with Jets in the master bedroom tub, a new dish washer and microwave.
We had 10 fun-filled years in our Gorham home!
Our needs in a home have changed slightly and we have to say goodbye to our house that has given us some may great times over the years. Upon putting our home on the market, we had it painted professionally and detailed inside and out. We also had it professionally leveled with a lifetime guarantee (that stays with the house). We had brand new insulation put in upstairs, and new sod in the front yard.
The time I had at Gorham was a wonderful time. Hopefully you will make as many happy memories as I did in this beautiful home.
